PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Having the ability to relieve another person’s pain is powerful and rewarding. There is more than one way to be a healer, and not every therapeutic profession requires a medical degree. If you will love to help people feel good by relieving stress, alleviating pain, or aiding in injury recovery to acquire the skills they need to turn that desire into a career. Students can look forward to helping people in settings such as spas, clinics, or athletic environments. While some may choose to work with individuals undergoing chemotherapy treatments, others will help top athletes return to the field.

The Massage Therapy program is designed to qualify graduates for entry-level employment in a Health Care setting, Spa environment or as an independent practitioner. Students are taught manual techniques to manipulate the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and to promote health and wellness. Topics include Anatomy, Physiology, Massage Theory, Florida Law, HIV/AIDS education, Hydrotherapy, Eastern and Allied modalities. Students gain hands-on experience through clinical applications and a positive learning environment that involves small classes.

Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers’ Massage Therapy Program prepares graduates for licensure testing and subsequent employment as licensed massage therapists. The curriculum includes six to nine months of classroom and clinical work alongside experienced instructors in the industry. Students will learn the foundation of massage theory and they will be trained in different skills including:

  • Hydrotherapy
  • Reflexology
  • Prenatal Massage
  • Deep Tissue and Trigger Point Therapy

Many self-employed massage practitioners travel with their equipment or rent out a space to practice. If you want specific clientele, you may even want to open your own massage parlor.
